What is Mise En Place
Mise en place is a French term which means "everything in place". It is a term used with cooking to describe preparation in the cooking process even before any cooking actually takes place. A chef will review their recipe and check that they have all of the correct ingredients and equipment to do the job. It means not having to stop and look for something in the middle of meal you are cooking.
So, break it down even more --
what is 10-10-10?
This philosophy is what is behind my own take on mise en place which is a 10-10-10 philosophy that I've developed for Recipe for Fatherhood. The recipes you find at this site and in my cookbook take at most 30 minutes to prepare, cook and serve. My technology breaks the process of cooking down to, at most, three 10-minute segments. One of the differences between this web site and my cookbook is that in my book -- I've literally broken down each recipe in what you should do for each ten-minute segment.
Why this is important...
Being a father myself, I know that it's hard to string together 30 minutes at a time when you have a baby -- especially a newborn. With this system, you start a meal and can be actually interrupted to help your wife or hold your child -- and still cook an easy, tasty dinner that can even be timed for just after your child falls asleep.I've found that breaking up the process of making a meal makes it far less daunting of a project. It also ensures that my wife and I have nice dinner together just about every night. As our daughter got older, I also found that this cooking technology I've created makes sure we eat healthy and together because every recipe here can be timed to when you want to eat dinner. This is good for your relationship, your family and your health. Bon Appetit!
